Race Report: Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle 5k

I returned to Seattle for my second visit of the year for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Remix Challenge. For the first time ever, the Seattle race added a 5k on Saturday so I got to participate in the inaugural 5k and earn some extra bling. My best friend met me in Seattle and ran her first Rock ‘n’ Roll race for the 5k. I’m hoping I have introduced her to the addiction of the Rock ‘n’ Roll series and that she’ll join me for more in the future 😊

The 5k took place outside of the Museum of Flight in Tukwila. Since we were staying in downtown Seattle, we took a Lyft to and from the race. I think this was a good choice and it made it easy getting to and from the race. Prior to lining up in our corral, I got to meet fellow BibRave Pro Justin of May the Course Be With You. I love getting to meet fellow Pros at races across the country!

The course was out and back next to the Museum of Flight, which was flat and not very scenic. I also got to cross paths with another BibRave Pro and local Seattle resident Amanda of See Amanda Run and high five as we passed other on the course. I let my friend dictate our pace because I wanted to stay with her and enjoy the race together. We finished to the very minute of her goal time! I was so proud.

Goal: Enjoy a shakeout run with my best friend
Date: June 17, 2017
Location: Seattle, WA
Distance: 5k; 3.1 miles
Conditions: 55 °F, 3 mph wind and 77% humidity
Total time: 40:00
Pace: 12:49 min/mile
Outcome: We had a blast running together and it was a good shakeout run

After the 5k, runners received the perk of getting to enjoy the Museum of Flight for free. It was a great perk and I mostly enjoyed the Space Gallery. We got to walk around the museum learning and simultaneously chatting about other Rock ‘n’ Roll race location with fellow runners – it was a fun experience!

We headed to the expo after the 5k so I could pick up my half marathon bib and enjoy the expo. The expo was just okay. There were some major brands typical of other Rock ‘n’ Roll expos that were missing. This was the least amount of time I have spent at a Rock ‘n’ Roll expo, which was good for my wallet but left me underwhelmed with the experience.

I loved enjoying this race and the experience with my best friend. I wouldn’t travel from out of state again for the 5k, but if it remains as part of the Remix Challenge I would consider racing it as part of the weekend package of races. Next up, the half marathon!
