I’m a huge animal lover and made the choice to reflect my passion for animals by selecting more compassionate food choices. I’ve made a conscious decision to avoid certain meat groups, and educate myself on the origin and treatment of my foods as much as I can. I’m not a strict vegetarian or vegan at this time, but I’m incorporating more plant-based foods into my diet. I was excited to learn Everlast Nutrition was producing a vegan protein and selected me and a group of Bib Rave Pros to sample and review it.
Everlast Vegan Protein is a plant-based protein mix containing a blend of yellow pea, rice and hemp proteins to promote lean muscle growth and recovery. It is lactose, gluten, sugar, hormone, GMO and cholesterol free. This product is made or packaged in the same facility as products that contain milk, eggs, wheat and soy, so avoid if any of these are allergens. My favorite pre-workout fuel is a “protein ball”, made of peanut butter, flaxseed, honey, dark chocolate chips, and protein powder. I usually make these with a chocolate flavored protein powder, but I tried the vanilla flavored Everlast Vegan Protein last week. I could taste the chocolate-vanilla mix, and it was a welcome departure from the more heavily flavored chocolate protein balls.
I had several post-workout protein drinks using my Blender Bottle. I just mix water and ice with the protein powder, shake to mix, and drink. The Everlast Vegan Protein powder was more difficult to mix than other powders I’ve tried, and it took some real force to shake it blended. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of this protein powder – it tastes like a vanilla cupcake! It was a welcome treat after several track workouts and long runs. Since it was a bit chunky to mix, this was my least favorite way to enjoy it.
I also mixed the protein powder in with several smoothies. I don’t follow a recipe for my smoothies, but they always contain Greek Yogurt, flaxseed, chia seeds, a protein powder, kale, and a mixture of fruits. I like to try different fruit mixes to see what tastes best. Even with all of the flavorful fruits in my smoothies, I could still detect the vanilla taste from the Everlast Vegan Protein and enjoyed it.
I’m really happy I finally found a vegan plant-based protein powder that I like the taste of, and Everlast informed me they plan on releasing more flavors! Woo hoo!
